Institute for Surgical Excellence Hosts Third Annual AI and Surgical Metrics Consensus Conference

Convening virtually, for the first time from July 10 – July 11, the Institute for Surgical Excellence welcomes leading robotic surgeons and researchers for discussions regarding data driven approaches to standardizing surgical testing, assessment, and feedback.  The Institute will also be honoring Dr. Anders Ericsson with it’s Maestro Award.

The Institute for Surgical Excellence (ISE), a non-profit organization that convenes leading innovators, hospital executives, and surgeons to push the bounds of surgical standards and improve patient outcomes, is holding its annual conference virtually, this weekend, July 10 – July 11, 2020. In attendance will be experts from dozens of institutions, including robotic surgeons, artificial intelligence (AI) researchers, and computer scientists. In addition – society representatives, government agencies, and robotic assisted device manufacturers will be participating.

This year’s conference will cover myriad topics, including presentations on Robotic Surgery Data Analysis, Optical Neuroimaging, Mental Imaging and Tissue Based Metrics, Eye Tracking and the potential utilization of AI in surgery.

The goal of this year’s conference will be to drive consensus for a framework for the future research and development of AI in surgical education and training, assessment, and feedback (for the short-term, mid-term, and long-term).

The ISE will also be posthumously honoring Dr. Anders Ericsson, Swedish Psychologist, Conradi Eminent Scholar, and Professor of Psychology at Florida State University with the third annual Maestro Award. Dr. Ericsson is an internationally recognized researcher in the nature of expertise and human performance. Dr. Ericsson has been an important supporter of our goals and true partner in our success. This would have been Dr. Ericsson’s third ISE consensus conference. The ISE board of directors and advisory board has learned so much from Dr. Ericsson and he will be deeply missed.

Dr. Ericsson’s family will be attending the conference and accepting on his behalf.

Last year’s recipient, Dr. Ajit Sachdeva, will be proudly presenting the award to Dr. Ericsson’s family.

The ISE would like to thank Intuitive, Medtronics, Johnson & Johnson, and CMR Surgical for making this year’s virtual conference a reality and helping to advance the ISE’s efforts to advance AI and surgical metrics.
